While you are trying to form your own 4-In-a-Row, you are simultaneously trying to make sure that your opponent does not form his 4-In-a-Row. If he does, you are automatically out and he has won the game. So the strategy of 4-In-a-Row is very much dual based - look at your opponent and look at yourself as well at the same time. Thus thinking ahead before each move is advisable. If you just throw your piece in, trying to get 4-In-a-Row, you may inadvertently make a move that helps your opponent and thus you will lose!
